“Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) slammed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and regional wage boards in the Philippines, accusing them of siding with business owners.
According to Tita Hadman, spokesperson of KMU Northern Mindanao, wages are so insufficient that instead of sustaining life, they increase the risk of death because they cannot meet a family’s basic needs.
Due to the unequal implementation of wage hikes, KMU plans to file a petition to make wage increases nationwide.
The group cited as an example the ₱85 wage hike in Luzon compared to only ₱39 approved in Northern Mindanao.
For KMU, this is inhumane and unfair, as it discriminates against workers in Mindanao.”
