The Alliance of Advocates of Federalism in the Philippines has called on the Supreme Court to immediately rule on the petitions filed by Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp against the House Justice Committee.

Speaking to Bombo Radyo CDO, national president Atty. Nazir Ynawat argued that the committee committed “clear abuse of authority” in its handling of the impeachment complaints.

Inawat pointed out that the complainants presented no direct evidence against the Vice President.

Instead, he said, the committee itself took the lead in inviting alleged witnesses and presenting supposed evidence functions that should properly fall under the Senate once the articles of impeachment are transmitted.

Lawmakers are set to vote soon on whether to impeach Duterte, a decision that would determine if the case proceeds to trial in the Senate.

Duterte’s allies remain hopeful that the Supreme Court will issue a temporary restraining order to halt what they describe as an overreach by the House committee.
