Misamis Oriental 1st District Representative Karen Lagbas clarified that she cannot confirm claims that some lawmakers voted for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte because of offers or promised projects.
She stressed that she herself received no such approach, nor was she threatened in any way regarding the vote.
According to Lagbas, the decision in the House was, for her, a conscience vote based on each legislator’s personal judgment and responsibility.
As a lawyer, she emphasized that lawmakers cannot ignore the information and evidence presented during the proceedings, especially the discussions on probable cause.
She added that it is necessary to uphold the findings of probable cause and follow the legal process in resolving the issue.
Lagbas added that their decision must remain anchored on the law, conscience, and due process in government.
