The International League of People’s Struggle (ILPS) Philippines voiced opposition to the Pax Silica project and its proposed implementation through an Economic Security Zone.
Spokesperson Arnold Padilla explained that the project covers 1,600 hectares of land that could potentially be controlled by Americans for high-tech manufacturing and mineral processing.
He warned that this may undermine the country’s sovereignty and patrimony, especially if extraterritorial jurisdiction is granted to the United States in the area.
Padilla noted that although the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) rejected the U.S. request, negotiations between the two countries are still ongoing.
ILPS expressed concern that the project could lead to large-scale exploitation of the Philippines’ natural resources for U.S. industrial and military purposes.
