The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Region-10 asserted that the country will not go bankrupt if the government implements their proposed salary increase for educators.
According to Roland Cruz, a teacher and ACT member, in an interview with Bombo Radyo, if the government can afford to distribute “suitcases of money” for personal interests, it can also provide a ₱50,000 entry-level salary for teachers and ₱36,000 for non-teaching personnel.
Cruz emphasized that their demand is small compared to the amounts pocketed by corrupt officials. For them, it is only right and just that the education sector, long calling for reform and enduring low wages—be granted fair compensation.
