The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan)–Southern Mindanao expressed confusion over Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp, which continues to insist that the impeachment case against her is merely a political maneuver by the government to remove her from office and block her possible bid for the presidency in 2028.

According to Rauff Issay of Bayan-Southern Mindanao, while political maneuvering may indeed be at play, their group places greater weight on the issue of accountability regarding the corruption allegations facing the vice president.

Issay stressed that these allegations must be clarified.

He added that if the vice president is truly clean and innocent, she should have already appeared in the hearings.

The group noted their frustration since Duterte’s camp previously claimed they would only respond in the “proper venue,” yet she has remained absent from past hearingsmissing the opportunity to directly address the accusations against her.
