City Councilor and Indigenous Peoples (IP) Representative Datu Roberto Cabaring has introduced a proposed ordinance aimed at reinforcing coordination and collaboration between barangay councils and Indigenous Political Structures or Tribal Councils in resolving disputes and managing Indigenous Cultural Communities.

During the regular City Council session yesterday, Cabaring pointed out the lack of organized communication and understanding between the two sectors.

He noted that weak coordination has contributed to unresolved land disputes in barangays Palalan, Tablon, and F.S. Catanico.

He also clarified that some barangay officials still do not fully grasp the mandate of the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), which affects smooth coordination with tribal councils.

To address this, Cabaring recommended holding a committee hearing with the Liga ng mga Barangay and other stakeholders to improve communication and strengthen cooperation across sectors.
