Reverend Rey Alejandro Lazaro of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines emphasized that the church cannot avoid speaking out on political and social issues because it is part of its moral responsibility to the people.

He explained that it is wrong to think the church interferes in politics, since its role is not confined within its walls but extends to guiding society in matters of morality and justice.

The pastor added that whenever events in society affect the people, it is natural for the church to raise its voice in the name of truth and public welfare.

Lazaro clarified that the church cannot remain silent about the realities experienced by its members, who are also ordinary citizens impacted by national issues.

For this reason, he stressed that the church continues to serve as a moral compass for society and has the right to speak on issues that directly affect the lives of Filipinos.
