European Council President Antonio Costa warned that the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz—without restrictions or fees—is vital for the world.

After meeting with regional leaders, including those from Lebanon and Syria, Costa stressed that the strait must be reopened in full respect of international law and the principle of freedom of navigation.

The Strait of Hormuz carries nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply, and its closure has triggered serious risks to global energy security and the economy.

Costa underscored that international cooperation is essential to safeguard oil shipments and prevent a deeper crisis.
