Former NLRC Commissioner and political science expert Atty. Proculo Sarmen, in an interview with Bombo Radyo, stated that postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections scheduled for November 2 this year would be unconstitutional and a violation of the law.

He explained that such a move would go against the Constitution and infringe upon the people’s right to choose their leaders.

Sarmen emphasized that the current national crisis cannot serve as a legal basis for postponement, as it differs from the COVID‑19 situation where a declared emergency was in place.

He further argued that citing election expenses as justification is invalid since funds have already been allocated for preparations, and diverting them to aid programs could constitute a violation of the law.
