Families of victims of the Philippines’ “war on drugs” are expressing hope that former President Rodrigo Duterte will face accountability before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Nanette Castillo, whose son was among those killed, said they have long awaited progress in the case against Duterte. She noted that families of victims are grateful that steps are finally being taken at the international level.

Castillo emphasized that the public must open their hearts and minds to the truth that the drug war did not only affect ordinary citizens but could impact anyone.

For her, a trial and possible conviction of Duterte would serve as a powerful lesson to all government officials that no one is above the law, and that justice will prevail in due time.

She expressed confidence that the victims’ families will eventually win the case and obtain the justice they have been seeking for years.
