“We didn’t see this coming.”
This was the reaction of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) following the unexpected gunfire incident inside the Senate on Wednesday night.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Atty. Allan Panolong, IBP national president, expressed deep surprise and alarm over the event, stressing that no one anticipated a violent incident within such a respected and dignified government institution.
According to Panolong, the Senate stands as a symbol of the people’s representation, making it difficult to imagine gunshots echoing within its halls.
He explained that the incident has raised serious concerns about security, not only among the legal community but also among the general public.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Panolong noted one positive aspect: no one was harmed during the incident.
