City Council minority leader Kag. Aga Suan expressed support for the proposal to remove Cogon Police Station commander Major Mario Mantala Jr., but emphasized the need to also hear the police’s side regarding the incident.
He suggested that the matter be discussed thoroughly by the council’s public order committee to allow the police to explain their position.
While Mantala has been criticized as a “weak” commander, Suan pointed out that he has been a trusted figure in maintaining peace and order, particularly in the fight against illegal drugs in the city.
This highlights a division in the council, with the majority pushing for Mantala’s replacement and the minority calling for due process before any decision is finalized.
