The Duterte Panagutin Campaign Network, led by convenor Atty. Jojo Lacanilao, has argued that the Supreme Court no longer needs to act on the petitions filed by Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp against the House of Representatives.

In an interview of Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, according to Lacanilao, any ruling from the High Court would be rendered “moot and academic” once the articles of impeachment are transmitted to the Senate for trial.

The House Justice Committee earlier voted to uphold the impeachment complaints against the Vice President, setting the stage for a full House vote before the case proceeds to the Senate.

Duterte’s legal team, however, remains hopeful that the Supreme Court will issue a temporary restraining order to halt what they describe as a “fishing expedition” investigation by the committee.

As the process moves forward, the Vice President’s allies are banking on judicial intervention to protect her rights, while critics insist that the matter should now be left to Congress and the Senate to resolve.
