The United People’s Initiative (UPI) carried out a project to summon 18 former seafarers, due to delays and the lack of time given by the government to hear and investigate their allegations.

Retired Air Force Major Gen. Romeo Poquiz, convenor of the organization, stated that their move aims to reveal to the public the whole truth about the alleged serious corruption and to demand accountability from those responsible for stealing the nation’s funds.

The group had hoped that Congress or the Senate would invite the former seafarers for investigation, but this did not happen. Because of this, UPI itself organized a “no‑holds‑barred” face‑to‑face meeting with retired generals and senior officers who will question them.

Poquiz added that through this, their statements can be thoroughly examined and the people will know what truly happened. Ultimately, the group believes this step is important to ensure transparency and proper resolution of the issue.
