The group Young Free Workers is set to push for higher wages and accountability for corruption during the upcoming Labor Day celebration on May 1.
According to interim president Norvin Gavino in an interview with Bombo Radyo, the demand for a wage increase continues due to rising prices of basic goods, despite recent fuel rollbacks.
He stressed that the daily struggles of workers prove that price hikes are not caused by wage increases, since costs have gone up even without salary adjustments.
Gavino acknowledged the government’s financial aid but said it is not a sufficient long-term solution to workers’ hardships.
He also underscored the need to hold accountable those involved in past corruption cases that have gradually been forgotten.
The group is urging the government to prioritize the welfare of workers and ensure justice against corrupt officials.
