The P20 Rice Project, popularly known as “Benteng Bigas”, was launched yesterday across several towns and cities in Misamis Oriental to help poor families access affordable rice.
Rollout activities in the First District covered Balingasag, Lagonglong, Salay, Binuangan, Sugbongcogon, Kinoguitan, Balingoan, Talisayan, Medina, Gingoog City, and Magsaysay.
In the Second District, the program reached Claveria, Jasaan, Villanueva, Tagoloan, Opol, El Salvador City, Alubijid, Laguindingan, Gitagum, Libertad, Initao, Manticao, Naawan, and Lugait.
The national government initiative aims to provide rice at ₱20 per kilo for families below the poverty line.
During the rollout, each beneficiary received five kilos of rice.
The National Food Authority assured that the rice distributed meets quality standards, having passed strict inspection and monitoring.
The NFA also encouraged residents to coordinate only with its official office in Cagayan de Oro to benefit from the program.
Governor Juliette Uy revealed that more programs, such as free rice distribution for impoverished families, are being planned to further support marginalized communities in the province.
