Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in Bukidnon have observed significant changes in the Kaamulan Festival compared to previous years.
According to Datu Jumong (Jomorito Goaynon) in an interview with Bombo Radyo, the festival used to involve formal consultations among tribes, local government, and national agencies to recognize and address issues while highlighting IP culture.
He lamented that the current focus has shifted toward dance competitions and cultural presentations rather than meaningful consultations with indigenous communities.
Goaynon expressed disappointment, saying the festival’s essence has moved away from genuine representation of IPs toward commercialization.
