CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – CAFETADA President Bernie Jamaca revealed that the entry of electric vehicle (EV) taxis such as Green GSM could push many traditional taxi operators into bankruptcy.
He explained that numerous drivers are shifting to EV taxi operators due to better livelihood opportunities, especially with the continuous rise in fuel prices.
Some operators have even lowered rental fees to retain drivers, but many still leave.
While Jamaca acknowledged that EV taxis can contribute to economic growth and job creation, he cautioned that without proper regulation, traditional operators’ livelihoods will suffer.
He urged both local and national governments to implement measures that protect traditional taxi operators and drivers while modernizing the transport sector.
