The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) expressed concern over the possible negative impression on the international community following the gunfire incident inside the Senate on Wednesday night.
IBP national president Atty. Allan Panolong noted that the incident has already been reported by international media, including major news organizations, casting an unfavorable light on the country.
He raised a pressing question, how was a firearm brought into a place known for strict and tight security such as the Senate?
Panolong explained that visitor verification is usually rigorous, making it imperative to thoroughly investigate what transpired.
He added that the incident could create damaging perceptions abroad, particularly regarding the Philippines’ security measures and the management of vital government institutions.
Because of this, the IBP has urged authorities to accelerate and deepen the investigation to answer all lingering questions and safeguard the nation’s credibility before the international community.
