Wilson Amad, a lay theologian, criticized U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s comment that Pope Leo XIV should avoid politics and geopolitics, focusing only on the gospel, morality, and faith.
Amad argued that God’s kingdom encompasses political life, meaning no aspect of human existence is beyond the Church’s guidance, including politics and war.
He added that it is a misconception among some Catholics to believe the Pope should not speak on worldly matters, since part of the Church’s mission is to bring the gospel into all areas of society.
Amad stressed that theology is the domain of the Church, and politicians should not dictate how the Pope fulfills his role as leader of the Catholic Church.
He concluded that Pope Leo XIV’s stance on global issues demonstrates the Church’s active role in defending truth, justice, and peace.
