The Northern Mindanao Federation of Transport Service Cooperative (NOMFEDTRASCO) has strongly condemned the continued surge in fuel prices driven by tensions in the Middle East, warning that costs could climb to as high as ₱90 per liter.

Luzminda Escobidal, president of the cooperative, revealed that they have already filed a petition for a provisional fare increase to help drivers and operators sustain their operations amid the crisis.

She stressed that the transport sector can no longer absorb the rising expenses and urgently called for the immediate release of fuel subsidies for both modern and traditional jeepney units.

Escobidal added that the cooperative is coordinating with the fuel subsidy program’s chairman to expedite assistance while awaiting supplemental budget allocations for service contracting of modernized jeepneys.

NOMFEDTRASCO emphasized that swift government action is crucial to shield transport workers and commuters from the economic fallout of global instability, underscoring the need for timely solutions to prevent further strain on the sector.
