Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) National President Allan Panolong emphasized in an interview with BOMBO Radyo that the Supreme Court does not easily intervene in the normal process of seeking justice, especially in weighty cases such as impeachment.
He explained that the Senate and the House of Representatives are co-equal branches, each with distinct functions and operations.
Panolong pointed out that unless the Supreme Court issues a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), the Senate impeachment court will continue hearing the case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
A TRO, he noted, is only granted if the Court finds irregularities in the process.
Earlier, several groups of lawyers had already filed petitions before the Supreme Court seeking a TRO to halt the impeachment proceedings, questioning the procedures used by the committee led by Congresswoman Gerville Luistro.
