Several residents of Iligan City called for help through Bombo Radyo after Typhoon Basyang made landfall around 11 p.m., unleashing heavy rains that caused widespread flooding.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that four rivers were under close monitoring, with Tubod Bridge being the first to overflow, inundating nearby communities.
By midnight, the Pugaan River also spilled over, worsening the situation. Floodwaters in Tinapoy and Mahayahay reached chest to neck level, prompting urgent rescue operations.
Authorities rushed to evacuate affected families as conditions deteriorated rapidly.
As of early morning, the Iligan City Information Office has not confirmed any casualties or missing persons linked to the ongoing rescue efforts.
The incident underscores the city’s vulnerability to extreme weather events and the urgent need for disaster preparedness.
