Newly elected FPJ Panday Bayanihan Party-list Representative Brian Poe Llamanzares, son of Senator Grace Poe and grandson of the late movie icon Fernando Poe Jr., has filed the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill as one of his first legislative proposals in the 20th Congress.
The measure seeks to expand public access to government records, including Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) of public officials like Vice President Sara Duterte, who is currently facing a fourth impeachment complaint.
Llamanzares emphasized that the public has the right to see the evidence being presented in the ongoing impeachment proceedings, asserting that transparency should not be compromised by technicalities or political maneuvering.
According to him, the FOI Bill is a tool that will empower citizens to hold leaders accountable by providing access to vital information—especially when questions of misconduct arise.
Backing the continuation of the trial against VP Duterte, Llamanzares stated his intent to follow the example of his mother, Senator Grace Poe, who previously voted in favor of pursuing impeachment trials in the Senate.
He clarified that his support for the FOI Bill is not about siding with any political faction, but about opening the doors of government to ordinary citizens, giving them a clearer view of what truly happens behind closed doors.
The proposed legislation is expected to spark further debate in Congress, especially with growing calls for transparency amid the intensifying political scrutiny surrounding the Vice President.
