Ayesha Merdeka Alonto of the Southern Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts highlighted the vital role of the youth in strengthening peace and preventing the resurgence of extremism nine years after the Marawi Siege.

She stressed that extremism has no place in Islam, as its true principles are rooted in protection rather than the spread of conflict.

Alonto also noted that with the institutionalization of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the foundations for a peaceful and united nation have become stronger.

She challenged young people to recognize and embrace their role in shaping a new Mindanao that fosters greater unity among all Filipinos.

According to her, education, self-identity, and active participation in peacebuilding are key to preventing the return of harmful ideologies that threaten communities and the nation.
