The Department of Agriculture Region 10 has advised farmers in the region to prepare for the possible effects of El Niño in the next six months, based on PAGASA’s forecast.
According to DA-10 Director Jose Apollo Pacamalan, even though only one month is expected to have below-normal rainfall, proper preparation is still necessary to avoid major damage to crops.
The agency assured that food production areas in the region have already been identified to support farming activities despite the expected dry spell.
Farmers are reminded to start planting drought-tolerant crops such as sweet potato and other root crops while there is still sufficient rainfall.
Pacamalan also emphasized that the supply of rice and vegetable seeds is already available, actively supported by their office for planting activities.
