The ouster of Vice President Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives and the sudden change in Senate leadership marked a major development in the country’s political and constitutional landscape.
Political analyst Prof. Proculo Sarmen noted that the Senate is constitutionally mandated to immediately convene the impeachment court and address the charges against the Vice President.
However, reports surfaced that the Senate leadership reshuffle was intended to stall or even kill the impeachment proceedings against Duterte.
