John Barry Tayam, LPT and Supreme Court petitioner, strongly criticized the plan to remove certain general education subjects from college and transfer them to Senior High School under the K‑12 program.
According to Tayam, reducing subjects, lessons, and learning hours will not solve the challenges faced by the education sector.
Instead, he emphasized that opportunities for education should be expanded and higher learning such as master’s and doctoral degrees should be encouraged.
He further explained that the Rizal subject cannot simply be merged with other courses because it has its own legal foundation and must remain an independent subject in college.
Tayam argued that strengthening the quality of education is better achieved by preserving essential courses rather than limiting students’ opportunities to learn.
